Interior design project in Lärkstan, Stockholm. This is Madelen’s family home that she moved into in 2023. The house was built in 1912 and contains many of its beautiful original features. The interior is a mix of new and old, and adorned with Madelen’s bespoke murals and designs, this home is a work of art in itself.
The living room is painted with a creamy white, accompanied by a terracotta brown joinery. “Big Poppy Rug”, designed by Madelen, add playfulness and softness with its organic shape. Behind the sofa, the room opens up to a library, fully painted in the terracotta color.
“I knew I wanted to make this room warm and cozy. A quiet place for the family but also a social place to hang out with friends. With the high ceiling in mind I wanted to create a space that reminiscent of an orangery and fill it with lots of plants. I think plants are absolutely essential in order to make a room pleasant to be in.”
The terracotta coloring of the poppy rug was created with this room in mind – an embracing and soft meadow to sit on centered in the room. A large botanical painting by Madelen’s brother Robert adds playfulness together with vintage palm tree lamps.
“I have always loved terracotta tones so I chose to go all in and work with a tight color palette. To create life, I instead chose to work with contrasts in shapes, patterns and materials.”
“Her floral patterns wind everywhere in apartment. It’s a truly unique home”

A daybed for naps and reading takes place in the library. The gallery wall contains a collection of paintings by family members, friends and Madelen herself.
“Since the kitchen is our dearest place, we wanted to create a warm and embracing feeling. Wood is not only beautiful – we think it contributes to peace and calmness.”
Madelen Möllard, Elle Decoration (September 2024).
The wall niches have been used to build shelves. The desk is an extension of the windowsill, painted in the same color as the walls and joinery.
The kitchen is painted in a faded apricot color accompanied by wooden cabinets and drawers. A dark and dramatic ox blood marble adds contrast and binds the wood and walls together.
The dining area is decorated with Madelen’s botanical murals, inspired by her wedding day in Italy, which add greenery and life to the space. A huge sofa are placed by the dinner table, covered in a durable outdoor fabric.
Inspired by traditional Swedish design, allmoge and flower embroidery, Madelen decorated this tiny guest WC. The pink basin and toilet is accompanied by a falu red paint and the exact pink color code is then used on the wall and flowers to match the porcelain.
The hallway is decorated with light green stripes, white flowers and a star ceiling. This bespoke room design is hand painted by Madelen’s brother Robert.
The atelier is on top of the apartment. The walls were painted in a creamy white to create a neutral and light space to work in. A lot of natural light are streaming through the ceiling windows and creates a perfect work place.
Inside the atelier, a rest room is decorated and hand painted by Madelen inspired by the plants and flower on Ibiza where she and Julius went on their honeymoon in 2022.
